Belarus shows off new laser bomb jammer, WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT


An equipment presentation laid out for inspection during an official visit by the Belarus and Russian presidents to the Baranovichi airbase, near Minsk, included the little-reported Sapfir laser guidance systems jammer set.


This device was developed and produced by the Belarusian state scientific-production enterprise (NP RUP LEMT), principally as a counter to laser-guided bombs. The Sapfir operational requirement is thought to have been raised in the aftermath of NATO's use of this type of weapon during air operations over the former Yugoslavia in 1999.
