Chernyshev - V V Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise (Russian Federation), Aero-engines - Manufacturer

Founded in 1932 in Tushino on the site of a former GVF (civil air fleet) repair factory as No 500 State Aviation Factory (GAZ) of the USSR, this enterprise is effectively the production factory for engines designed at the adjoining OKB-500, which since 1966 has been known as Soyuz TMKB (which see). Initially it produced a succession of small radial engines, followed by the ACh (Charomskiy) high-power diesels for long-range bombers. In 1947 it came under the direction of Vladimir Vasilyevich Chernyshev, and made the RD-500 (Rolls-Royce Derwent), followed in 1950 by the Nene-derived VK-1 . In 1952 it began making the AM-5 turbojet from Factory 300 (see under Soyuz), followed by the R-11 in many versions. From 1960 the site became one of the most important in the USSR, and it produced the R27, R29, R-35 and, from 1981, carried out assembly, test and in-service repair of the Klimov RD-33 (for the MiG-29) and TV7-117S (for the Ilyushin Il-114). In 1992 it was selected to manufacture the French Larzac 04-R20 engine under licence, but this agreement was never activated (see under Turbomeca-Snecma, France). Instead, Chernyshev Moscow collaborated with Soyuz TMKB to produce the RD-1700 to power MiG-AT aircraft. At the 2006 Farnborough airshow Chernyshev issued its own brochures and leaflets on the RD-33 and TV7-117SM. These engines and overhaul and parts for the R27F2M-300, RD29-300 and R35 represented the company's main activities in 2011, and the company also lists an interest in the VK-2500 turboshaft.

A 20 MW powerplant for electricity generation was nearing completion in 2011. It also produces a range of konversiya consumer products. Chernyshev died in 1983, his successor being A S Napol'nov, who in October 1997 was succeeded by O N Tret'yakov. In a move to strengthen Russian industry, this production plant became part of the MAPO-MiG enterprise. From 2008, Chernyshev came under the Oboronprom United Engine Building Corporation managing company.
