Development
At the 2006 Air Show China exhibition a previously unknown anti-ship missile was exhibited by the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). This missile, designated C-704, is an entirely new addition to CASIC's existing range of anti-ship missiles. CASIC's C-704 (an export designation) is almost identical in appearance and stated performance to the TL-6/JJ-6 missile exhibited two years previously at the 2004 Air Show China event. The TL-6/JJ-6 was a product of the Hongdu Aviation Industry Group and was shown alongside the same company's TL-10/JJ-10/KJ-10 anti-ship missile. The display of these two missiles in 2004 was itself a new development for Hongdu as they were its first acknowledged guided weapons products. At the 2006 Air Show China, Hongdu exhibited an air-launched KJ-10A (TL-10A) missile on its L-15 advanced trainer/light attack aircraft, without identifying the missile in any way. The Hongdu TL-6/JJ-6 missile did not appear at the show, but instead the virtually identical C-704 was lined up as part of the CASIC product family.CASIC representatives refused to discuss the C-704 in any detail while denying that it was related to any previous Chinese programme. CASIC specifically refuted the suggestion that the TL-6/JJ-6 and C-704 were linked. However, the two missiles are so alike in appearance that it is difficult to believe they are not connected in some way. Furthermore, technical specifications for the C-704 acquired by Jane's from the China National Precision Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CPMIEC), the body charged with export sales of the C-704, show
