Laser-guided bomb.
Development
The LT-2 (Lei Ting, meaning to fly) is one of a number of Chinese Precision-Guided Munitions (PGMs) first exhibited at the 2006 Air Show China event. It is a product of the Luoyang Optoelectro Technology Development Centre (LOEC). LOEC is an active design and production source for air-to-air missiles, but the LT-2 (and the associated LS-6 glide bomb) are the company's first known steps into air-to-surface weapons. China is developing a series of varied PGMs and it is probable that the LT-2 was revealed in 2006 because a more sophisticated successor system has become available to the PLA. It is also likely that the LT-2 has been cleared for export. No details are available of the LT-2's development history, although a LOEC spokesman has commented that it was the first design in its family and that there was never an LT-1 weapon. The LT-2 is similar in configuration to LGB models that have been shown on (models of) Chengdu's FC-1/Super 7 (JF-17) light fighter aircraft. It is possible therefore that the LT-2 is an export weapons option for prospective FC-1 customers. Chengdu has also shown FC-1 models carrying representative laser designation pods along with LGBs. LOEC confirms that is has worked on podded laser designation systems for use with its weapons but these have not yet been shown in public.
