Type
General purpose bomb.
Development
This range of low-drag general-purpose bombs was developed in the 1990s by Ordtech Military Industries, for use by the Greek armed forces and for export. The design is based on the well-proven US Mk 80 series of bombs, which was developed in the 1950s and exported to air forces throughout the world. The range of four bombs developed carry the same designations as their US counterparts Mk 81, 82, 83 and 84. Ordtech have also developed low- and high-drag tail units together with mechanical and electronic fuzes for use with the four bombs. The bombs' design allows them to be carried under wings or fuselage of high-speed aircraft with minimum performance degradation and are fitted with standard NATO suspension lugs.It is believed that the bombs have been cleared for carriage on A-7 Corsair, F-4E Phantom, F-5 Freedom Fighter, F-16 Fighting Falcon, Mirage F1 and Mirage 2000 aircraft belonging to the Greek Air Force. However, any aircraft that has been cleared to carry their US counterparts could also carry them.
