Seirina Guided Bombs (Greece), Bombs - Precision and guided munitions

Type
INS/Satellite-guided bomb.

Development
Ordtech Military Industries began development of the Seirina guided bomb in 1996, upon request and funding by a customer air force. The initial requirement was for an autonomous, all-weather, precision guided bomb in the 227 kg (500 lb) and 454 kg (1,000 lb) class, which was to be capable of carriage by a broad range of fighter/bomber aircraft without any aircraft modifications. A further requirement was that the bomb had to use the existing inventory of standard (unguided) bomb warheads, such as the Mk 80 family of general purpose bombs. Later (export) versions of the Seirina are either 1,000 lb (Mk 83) or 2,000 lb (Mk 84) weapons, known as the SGM II series (Seirina Guided Bomb II). The Seirina bomb kit is similar to the US Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM), in that the bomb's low-drag tail unit is replaced by one with movable control fins. It also contains a GPS aided inertial navigation system, digital autopilot and control system. The major difference between the two systems is that the Seirina is fully autonomous and requires no data from the launch aircraft. It can be launched from any aircraft that is large enough to carry it and can fly at sufficient speed to meet the weapons launch parameters. The existing warhead is also fitted with a modular body frame, which has four strakes for stabilisation and to increase the released bombs glide path. The Seirina design allows the weapons to be carried under wings or fuselage of high-speed
