Velos Practice Bombs (FV3 and FV-4) (Greece), Bombs - Unguided

Type
Practice bombs.

Development
Ordtech Military Industries has developed a family of Velos FV series of ballistic practice bombs, to train aircrew in the use of many types of live aircraft armament stores. The practice bombs are based on a modular concept, the choice of the appropriate combination of tail assembly, nose cone and ballast units allows simulation of the trajectories of a wide range of bombs deployed from aircraft. The Velos family consists of two basic bombs, which are designated FV3 and FV4. The basic FV3 has been designed to simulate 250 kg retarded high-drag bombs, whereas the basic FV4 is designed to simulate 250 kg low-drag bombs. Both bombs are similar in size and shape to the French BAVAR practice bombs and it is unclear if they are built under licence or simply a similar design. Due to the modular design the two basic bombs can be made in various lengths, weights and shapes, depending on their application. This ability to alter lengths allows shorter models to be assembled for tandem, triple and multiple ejector racks. All of the FV series of practice bombs can be fitted with a variety of impact markers. Both bombs and their variants are believed to be qualified for carriage on A-7 Corsair, F-4E Phantom, F-5 Freedom Fighter, F-16 Fighting Falcon, Mirage F1 and Mirage 2000 aircraft belonging to the Greek Air Force. However, their design allows them to be carried on any combat or training aircraft fitted with standard NATO 356 mm (14 in), 250 mm
