Type
Data processing system.
Description
Smiths Aerospace offers a system solution for memory intensive avionic requirements. The Advanced Data Transfer Equipment (ADTE) allows aircraft integrators the flexibility to include advanced capabilities into their system architecture, including Digital Terrain Systems (DTSs), digital moving maps, solid-state video recording, network-accessible solid-state mass storage and high-speed interfaces. The ADTE is available in two basic configurations. The first consists of two components; an intelligent cockpit-mounted receptacle called the Advanced Data Transfer Unit (ADTU), and the removable Advanced Data Transfer Cartridge (ADTC). The convection-cooled ADTU uses the same form factor as Smiths' Data Transfer Unit (DTU), providing all aircraft interfaces and serving as the receptacle for the ADTC. The second configuration has three components; a small form-factor, non-processor-based Data Transfer Cartridge Receptacle (DTCR) that is typically mounted in the cockpit, an air-cooled Data Management Unit (DMU) that is mounted in an equipment bay, and the ADTC. The DTCR serves as the receptacle for the ADTC and interfaces to the DMU via a high-speed bus. The DMU provides all aircraft interfaces. Both the ADTU and DMU share common, compact PCI form-factor circuit cards. The DMU was designed, however, for those applications that required more functionality equating to more circuit card assemblies and the resulting higher heat dissipation. The ADTE is available with numerous interfaces designed to facilitate data movement between the ADTE and other aircraft avionics. These interfaces include MIL-STD-1553B, RS- 422, both copper and fibre optic fibre channel, Digibus, ARINC 429, and Fast Ethernet. The system can be configured to customer requirements.
