Development/Description
The Submarine Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (SEPIRB), T-1630/SRT, is an expendable submarine-launched emergency beacon that operates in conjunction with the international KOSPAS-SARSAT distress system, having been granted KOSPAS-SARSAT Type Approval, certificate No 116. The beacon is designed for launch from submarines in distress, and comprises a 406 MHz transmitter, integrated GPS positioning and 121.5 MHz beacon. Information transmitted includes unique submarine identification, elapsed time from activation, initial GPS position fix, and other distress data.The beacon is deployed from a 76.2 or 101.6 mm (with adapter sleeve) signal ejector, or manually released via an emergency escape trunk. The beacon is powered by a lithium manganese dioxide battery.

Status
In production in 2002. In US Navy service, and available for export to all approved countries.
