Capabilities include: digital ciphered voice and high-speed data (up to 9,600 bits/s) with automatic data-rate management, ARQ and AFC; fast ALE; intelligent FH with automatic hop-band selection, wideband hopping on the move, and built-in digital encryption for voice and data; PC-based application software for e-mail and file transfer (commonality with PR4G F@stnet); and PDA-based application software with external GPS.Interoperable with MIL-ALE-141B Appendix A, modems are STANAG 4285/4481/4539/4444. Vocoding is STANAG 4198 (LPC 2,400 bits/s), STANAG 4479 (LPC 800 bits/s) and STANAG 4591 (MELP 2,400 and 1,200 bits/s). E-mail is XOmail STANAG 4406 or COTS (plus STANAG 5066). The TRC 3700 weighs less than 4 kg without battery, and has a volume of less than 3.7 litres. Vehicle radio stations are the TRC 3710 (up to 20 W output), TRC 3730 (up to 125 W) and TRC 3740 (up to 400 W). Peripherals and ancillaries that are common with PR4G include tactical data terminals, a remote-control unit, fill gun and optimised antennas.
Status
The new generation TRC 3700 radios have been ordered for CARTHAGE (Automated tactical HF radio communications for EW environments) and MELCHIOR (Moven d'Elongation pour les Communications HF Interarmées en Reseau). In March 2008 the contractor announced that the TRC 3700 was to be used as part of the communications fit for the Luxembourg Army's KMW Dingo 2-based Protected Recce Vehicle (PRV) programme. Some 48 PRV 4 × 4 Dingo 2 vehicles are due to be delivered by the end of 2010.SkyF@st is reported to be in production for the Indonesian military, following the signing of an MoU with Indonesian industrial electronics company PT LEN Industri in November 2008. That MoU also covered PR4G F@stnet.In July 2010 Thales announced it had received a contract to provide TRC 3700 and PRC6809 tactical radios to the Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo (FARDC). The contract was funded by the US Department of State under project 'AFRICAP', and supported by the UK Embassy. The purpose of the project was to provide tactical communications and training to the FARDC for a Rapid Reaction Force made up of 12 Battalions. The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo will deploy the Battalions nationally, focusing initially in the North and East of the country, in support of ongoing stabilisation projects.TRC 3700 radios have also been purchased by the Italian authorities, and the radio is also the technology basis of the SE240 HF system supplied to the Swiss Armed Forces under the terms of a contract
