Description
The Iron Horse mobile barrier has been tried and tested by the police and army throughout the UK for operational use, especially riot control. The unit, when closed for transportation, resembles a mobile cage with internal storage area for carrying further equipment if required. Deployment of the barrier takes only 20 seconds with two personnel producing a secure Streetblocker, 13.1 m wide and 3 m high. The construction is of galvanised mild steel and in-filled with aluminium checker plate or prison mesh. Locking and diagonal bars are incorporated to make the unit absolutely solid. Cranked panels are fitted at the top and a heavy-duty rubber skirt at the lower part of the unit to protect personnel from thrown objects. Two one-ton jacks are fitted to stabilise and to angle if required for high kerbs and for other purposes. The smaller secondary gates are 'sliding' for narrower streets.Construction on a twin axle solid chassis, with braking system, allows the Iron Horse to be transported at an illegal test speed of 70 mph. The total kerb weight is 1,160 kg and the axle weight 2,600 kg; its capacity enables extra equipment to be fitted or carried. The versatility of this unit allows the blockade of a designated area but can be opened immediately for exit or access to emergency vehicles, it can also be towed at slow speeds while open. Warning signs, flashing beacons, spotlights or even billboards can be fitted easily.
