Companies and organisations responsible for military Earth observation satellites formed Sovinformsputnik in 1991 with authority to distribute high-resolution images of foreign territory. Much of the inventory of images came from early military reconnaissance satellite systems and was a direct marketing attempt to provide high resolution imagery in competition with the European Spot Image and US Landsat systems with much lower resolution. The majority shareholder is the State Research & Production Space Rocket Center "TsSKB-Progress", builders of "Resurs-F", "Kometa" series mapping satellites and other Remote Sensing satellites to acquire 1 and 2 m resolution data, as well as the stereoscopic 10 m resolution images over the different territories. Other shareholders include "Krasnogorski Zavod" joint stock company and "Priroda" Center. Sovinformsputnik has the licensed right to distribute products/services from all these satellites. Multi-year collected archives of space imagery stretch back to 1981. Sovinformsputnik works directly with Russian Industry and Russian Aviation-Space Agency. All three organisations are pooling resources to develop a new and advanced earth resource and remote-sensing package for adaptable interface with several bus designs already in production in Russia.Sovinformsputnik Profile (products and services): space data acquisition, DEMs and DTMs generation, aero- and space-data orthorectification, GIS layers creation, 3-D modeling, 3-D animation, maps and image scanning and digitalising, software designing for data processing, training, topographic and thematic maps creation, space data/value-added products distribution worldwide.
