EMP Bomb (Australia), Offensive weapons

Description
It was reported in 2000 that Australia's Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) was developing a non-nuclear Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) bomb. This weapon was being developed for use against electronic components, without damaging buildings, livestock or people. EMP bombs are believed to have been developed by Russia and the US, but second-generation weapons are expected to be more widely available by 2010. The EMP bomb will be powered by thermal batteries or a solid propellant electric pulse generator. Typical performance capabilities are expected to be with peak powers of up to 100 MW, an energy of 10 to 1,000 J, and a range from 100 m up to 1 km. The EMP will last for a short-time period, and may operate with a PRF of between 100 and 1,000 Hz.
