Political background
Since 1996, the former CN commuter line connecting Central station, Montréal, with Deux-Montagnes and the former CP line from Lucien-L'Allier (Montréal) station to Dorion and Rigaud were taken over by L'Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT), an organisation created by the government of Quebec to co-ordinate and promote public transport in the greater Montréal area. As well as being charged with developing the commuter rail network, AMT is the planning authority for regional public transport services like express buses, reserved lanes and the metropolitan terminus.Under the stewardship of AMT, the Montréal commuter rail network has grown from two to five lines, with additions and extensions planned.
